Candle of splendor,
      lacquer me still,
      leap from your cradle,
      dawn from your doze,
      open your eyelid, and let your tears spill
            to my droughty complexion before my light goes

Run to your zenith,
      settle the land,
      tidy the dust that
      clouded our eyes,
      hasten my waning, and steady your stand,
            let my poverty plummet, your royalty rise

Worry you little,
      dominant eye;
      after you flicker,
      fall for the night,
      twitching and squinting and red from your cry,
            I'll be lingering on with unvarying sight
